So get your knitting needles ready! This year, Lohja is turning 700 years old. To celebrate, the city and the Hiiden Opisto adult education centre are organising the 700 Loops knitting competition.
Welcome to the 700 Loops competition! Knit a garment with a Lohja theme this spring and submit it to us.
1. Use your imagination!
2. Make a hand-knitted garment.
3. Tell the story of the Lohja-themed garment.
4. Include knitting instructions for the garment.
5. See rule 1.
A jury of professionals will make a shortlist of the best garments for the competition’s final round, where the winner will be chosen by audience vote. The finalist garments will be on display throughout August at the Lohja main library’s Linderin hall, where you can also vote for your favourite.
The winning garment will receive an award and be included in the Lohja700 exhibition of the Lohja Museum!
The professional jury consists of Lohja’s own fashion guru Jaakko Selin, Urpuliisa Kuosmanen from Lankakauppa Vaudevilla, and principal Anne Kotonen of the Hiiden Opisto adult education centre.
You have all spring to get your garment ready. Participating garments must be submitted to Hiiden Opisto by the end of May.
The training programme for the competition starts as early as January. The Hiiden Opisto adult education centre is organising an idea workshop at the Laurentius Hall on Saturday, 21 January from 12 noon to 3:15 pm.
By submitting your garment you give your permission to the City of Lohja to publish your name, the story submitted with your garment and photographs of your garment on its websites and social media channels, as well as provide them for publication by partner channels or media.
Please also submit the story related to your garment digitally by email to email@example.com by 1 June 2023.
